Celkon has targeted budgeted smartphones as this is the fastest growing segment in the Indian consumer market.

Celkon Q40 Plus Review

The Smartphone also has been leveraged against other Smartphones such as and has been described as “Discreet, Exhuberant and Dynamic” by Celkon Mobiles .The Celkon Q40 Plus is pitched against Samsung Galaxy Ace NXT Duos, Micromax Bolt A069, Nokia Lumia 530, Micromax Canvas Edge etc.

The Celkon Q40 Plus has been priced at Rs 5699 and is a dual sim phone and offers both functional and affordability aspects to the Indian consumer.

The Look of the Celkon Q40+

The Celkon Q40 Plus has a glossy finish and sports a 4 inch WVGA IPS capacitive touch screen. The screen resolution is 480*800 pixels with a pixel density of 233 PPI and colour depth of 16M which provides average screen resolution. The Smartphone comes in three colour variants which are Black, Silver and Grey. The colour of the frame is uniform across the handset and has a plastic feel to it. Since the phone is glossy in texture, it is susceptible to slip and fall from the palm. The dimension of the phone makes it perfect to carry it in the hand but one might need an anti slip casing to carry it around.

The screen of the phone offers its best resolution indoors and may not be conducive to read under natural sunlight. The three capacitive buttons are placed at the bottom of the screen and the speaker on top. The volume controls are on the left of the phone which is typical of Celkon handset designs.

Overall the looks are average and provide the consumer a sturdy and practical hand phone.

The Hardware Specifications of Celkon Q40 Plus

The Celkon Q40 Plus is powered by 1.3 GHz quad core processor coupled with a 1GB RAM. The GPU is a Mali 400 but its graphical finesse is doubted and can only support low definition games. The screen will hang while playing videos or games with high definition graphics. The inbuilt storage is 8GB which is poor by smartphone standards. The memory is further expandable by 32GB which is its saving grace through a micro SD slot. This should be sufficient to the average data user but may not be the staple of a consumer who is heavy into downloading music, films and videos. This will not function properly and will hang in between.

For being a Smartphone the Celkon Q40 Plus surprisingly sports only a rear camera which is 5MP, auto focus and with flash. This is the drawback of the phone as most Smartphones priced at less than 6K sports dual cameras and even some of the cheap Smartphones like the Adcom A35 which is priced less than 2.5K has dual cameras.

The smartphone supports video recording, SMS, Push SMS and Email support.

The specifications say that the phone offers 3G video calling but the experience will not be a nice one for lack of a front camera. The user can only see the caller on the other side, but will be treated with a blank picture of the user to the caller on the other end of the line.

The Celkon Q40 Plus has a Li-Ion 1500aMh removable battery which provides a talk time of 6-7 hours on a rough estimate and the stand by time could be anywhere between 250-300 hours .The USP of the phone is that it comes equipped with TLX 2200mAh  Power Bank  that allows the phone to be charged anywhere and anytime as it is a portable charger.

The Software Specifications

The Celkon Q40 Plus runs on the Android 4.4 Kit Kat which ensures that the use of applications is without glitches although the multitasking abilities of the Smartphone are restricted to maximum of 2 applications at the same time.

The Smartphone supports both 2G and 3G services in one of the Sims and the other supports just the 2G. The Celkon Q40 Plus provides sensors like G-sensor, Proximity sensor and light sensor. The Smartphone also provides with Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi hotspot, microUSB v2.0, Bluetooth, GPRS and EDGE.

The Celkon Q40 Plus keeps the Indian consumer well connected with the social networking sites.

The Final Verdict of Celkon Q40 Plus Review

The Smartphone gets a 4 star rating as its memory specifications is minimal, the display screen is not HD and the absence of a front camera may not be appealing to the Indian consumers.

The Celkon Q40 Plus can aim at sales for the next few months as more Smartphones are being released in the market with better features and specifications but at a competitive price. The Celkon Q40 Plus may not be able to stand against the onslaught for a long time.

The Celkon Q40 Plus fares better in some of the aspects compared to a range of smartphones and is a good value for money. The pricing is decent and should be able to counter the competition from Samsung, Micromax or Nokia but may lose out against Google’s Android one which is priced at Rs5999 which is slightly higher than the price of Celkon Q40 Plus.

Its hardware specifications are good when compared to a Samsung Ace Next Duos which is just 1.2 GHz and the rear camera is just a 3MP. The Nokia Asha 503 has a 64MB RAM compared the 1GB offered in the Celkon and the battery which is at 1200mAH compared to the 1500mAh of the Celkon.

The Celkon Q40 Plus is a good sturdy phone compared to other smartphones in the same price range.
