With a compact layout, feature-rich specifications and stylish looks, the Coolpad Note 3 Lite let you experience the best in wireless calling and on-the-move entertainment.
Coolpad, a tech company that is still taking initial steps in India, last year announced that it would soon launch its 1st ‘Made in India’ Smartphone. As promised at the time of publishing the Coolpad Note 3, the company introduced the Coolpad Note 3 Lite, which is manufactured in India in partnership with Videocon. Coolpad Group Limited is a Chinese Equipment Company. Coolpad is among one of the largest Smartphone companies from China. Coolpad smartphones were exclusively available on the websites for the company’s Indian customers.
Coolest thing about Note 3 Lite
The device is finished with Polycarbonate body and has a golden rim running around its edges. The compact size furnishes proper grip on it while grabbing it in the palm of your hand. It has two micro SIM slots with dual-standby and 4G LTE band enabled. The phone comes with 16GB internal memory and supports up to 32GB expandable memory. The device also has OTG support, so you can quickly access content from external storage devices for endless entertainment.
The Coolpad Note 3 Lite sports a very classic design with oval edges and a chrome ring visible at the front. On the front, you will find a 5.5-inch display with an ample bezel above and below it. The lower side shows three touch buttons while the upper side has the front-facing camera. The right side accommodates power and left edges volume rocker. The device has 3.5mm jack, and the lower edge gets a micro USB port and the mic. Just turn around and the backside shows the LED flash and a secondary mic. Down the camera, we will also find the fingerprint scanner and glimpse slightly below, and you will find the speaker network. The fingerprint scanner is well placed, just as we see in few modern devices, which makes it too easy to unlock the device using the index finger. However, the matte white back looks evidently plastic.
Multimedia – Get A Fascinating Viewing Experience
Immerse yourself like never before by watching music videos, movies, photos and other content on the phones 5.0 inch IPS HD display having a resolution of 1280 pixel by 720 pixels and has 178-degree viewing angle. The scratch resistant exposure ensures that you get maximum area when you play any game on the device. The ARM Mali T720 GPU processor never lets the Smartphone freeze.
Photography – Dual Cameras Double the Fun for You
The Coolpad Note 3 Lite comes with a 13MP primary and a 5MP secondary camera. The main camera with LED flash allows you to take clear photos and videos; the secondary camera comes handy in freezing some selfies. With the Pro mode, you can have easy control over the brightness, ISO level and colour settings. The device comes with a fingerprint sensor for waking up the device which also works as a shutter button while taking photos.
The photos taken in bright sunlight are clear and accurate, with good dynamic range. The colour reproduction does not disappoint either. However, we can’t say the same about snaps clicked in low-light conditions. The camera is also capable of shooting decent 1080p videos.
Software – An Open Source Android System
The Smartphone runs on latest Android 5.1 Lollipop OS with Coolpad’s User Interface 6.0 software overlay. The result is the smooth and arbitrary execution of application all the time. With the device Split-Screen option, you can have a great multitasking experience.
The interesting features
With Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, GPS, FM radio, EDGE, GPRS and a long lasting 2500 mAh battery, the Coolpad Note 3 Lite becomes a complete entity for you. Available at a reasonable price, the device always keeps you in action with less effort.
The device is not ground-breaking, and we have already seen similar things from other budget smartphones – but it does match up to the competition. Measuring 140.8mm x 70.4mm x 8.9mm, the device’s power and volume buttons are easy to handle with one hand. Typing is also smooth on the Coolpad Note 3 Lite’s Keyboard. The white rear shell is removable, with a non-removable battery. The grip is also furnished with the texture of the shell. The two Micro-SIM slots support dual-standby & there is 4G LTE on both. The speaker is at the bottom of the rear, and the fingerprint sensor is just down the rear camera.
As far as the performance is concerned, the Note 3 Lite runs like a breeze. It supports multi-performance without any lag; switching between apps is also smooth.
The Coolpad Note 3 Lite packs a 64-bit quad-core Media-Tech MT6735 processor at 1.3 GHz with an integrated Mali T-720 GPU, with 3GB of LP DDR3 RAM. Coolpad’s Cool UI 6.0 software overlay is based on Android 5.1 Lollipop OS and is somewhat outspoken. The company is already working on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
The fingerprint scanner takes less time to setup. Interestingly, there is an app called FP Lock which is already installed that lets you lock individual apps using the fingerprint scanner. This means you can quickly secure access to your private data. It also has pre-installed app i.e. Xplore keyboard app, which is integrated with Yahoo. Then there are smart gesture and quick call options, just like other Chinese vendors.
Comparison with Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime
Before Xiaomi brought its Redmi 3 in India, its competitor Coolpad has brought in its Note 3 Lite Smartphone. It is simply the 5-inch version of Note 3 device. The original 5.5-inch Note 3 was launched for Rs 8,999.
The key difference is the Value of RAM which plays a very lead role in the performance of the phone. So here Coolpad Note 3 Lite won the battle because it consists of 3GB RAM while the other Xiaomi supported only 2GB RAM. Coolpad Note 3 Lite is the cheapest phone offering 3GB RAM.
The Camera features of the Phone also affect a lot of the buying decision, and here we picked Coolpad Note 3 Lite as a winner. It had a 13 Mp primary camera packed with LED flash, however, Redmi 2 Prime has only 8 MP Rear shooter.
Coolpad Note 3 Lite is the first smartphone comes with a fingerprint scanner in 7000 range; the features which are mostly found in 10000 range phones. Fingerprint Scanner enhanced the security of the device; it is placed on the back panel of Note 3 Lite. While the other phone do not support Fingerprint Scanner. So in the case of security Coolpad Note 3 Lite, it is best.
The Coolpad Note 3 Lite is fueled by a 2500mAh battery, Redmi 2 Prime by a 2200mAh. So in battery section, the CoolPad Note 3 lite get higher points.
Design and Build Quality
Overall, the Note 3 is a large device and users can’t really expect comfortable one-hand usage. It was difficult reaching the last of the three capacitive touch buttons with one-hand usage. The company claims a metal frame inside but tends to look slightly cheap.
Coolpad Note 3 Lite is very similar to what we have seen in the Coolpad Note 3 apart from size. Note 3 Lite has a 5.0-inch display. At the bottom of the screen, we have three touches capacitive button which doesn’t light up. On the right of the device, there is power/unlock button which is pretty sturdy. At the back, it is finished with the soft texture to give a great feeling when in hand. It also gives a good grip in hand. The back cover is removable, but battery is not user removable. The overall design looks beautiful and premium at the same time.
This device comes with 5.0 720p HD Resolution IPS display without any screen protection. This is magnificent when it comes to color quality. It has got a nice color reproduction, rich contrast as well as good viewing angle at the same time. Video viewing experience on this phone is a delight, and better compared to Coolpad Note 3. The overall display quality is good even in outdoor lighting without any distortion noticed.
This phone performs quite well in the everyday task.
The improved User Interface gives a lot of features as well. Though it clocked 1.3 GHz, gaming performance is flawless with a smooth bare stutter. The complete performance is superb after considering this price. Camera sensor comes with 13 MegaPixel autofocus with LED flash and Secondary Noise Cancellation Mic. The primary camera shoots Full High Definition video; the video is also well exposed and well stabilized. The primary camera captures photos in outdoor lighting condition & even HDR Modes works very well. The 5 MegaPixel front-facing camera produces a decent amount of detailing in selfies, but it’s not the best in this price range. The overall camera quality seems better than original Coolpad note 3. The overall battery life isn’t great, but it gives fairly decent battery life for one whole day moderate usage.
The UI is presented in 2 forms – Traditional and Minimal. Press and hold on the home screen and four icons will show on the lower side –Wallpaper, Widgets, Effects and Preferences. Under Preferences, you are provided to select the traditional User Interface. To switch back just click on the 1st capacitive touch button and you will find minimalistic UI option under Preferences. Under Effects, you are offered to choose the way the device lets you switch from one to other. It seems more like flashy.
Just slide your finger down, and you will find the notifications. Besides, you will also find 16 shortcuts such as Wi-Fi, Airplane mode, Bluetooth, and so on. There is also a feature called the C button, and switching it will bring additional options that can be handled from any portal. The image below shows some of the cool themes that you can download for free from its Cool Show app.

Smartphone are getting better every single day. This has made a drastic change on how these budget smartphones will perform. Though they still lack the significant firepower to go head-on against flagship devices, they won’t let you down if daily tasks are the primary concern. In today’s sub-10K smartphone bracket, 3GB of RAM and 13MP camera, an octa-core processor have become somewhat standard.
Overall the phone is very handy with the price with which it has been offered. It could have been the best phone in this segment provided Coolpad note 3 takes care of some minor issues.
While there are plenty of contenders in the sub-10K category with more or less the same specification and performance, we believe that there is always room for change. This brings us to the Coolpad Note 3. The 3rd phone in six months from the Chinese manufacturer brings a couple of new aspects to the table in the class-10k price bracket – a fingerprint sensor and 3GB of RAM. We’d say this device is average – not a spectacular game changer, but we’d speculate if you intend to try it out, it would just seem decent.
