Intex has been launching a new range of Aqua series smart phones with slightly better features than the ones it offers in the basic handsets. Its success can, not yet to be measured as the company is getting mixed responses on the handsets. The Intex Aqua Speed has been recently launched as a new budget Smartphone. It is priced at Rs.7444 and was initially available only on the e-commerce site, eBay India. It is now available for the same price on websites like Snapdeal and Flipkart.
The phone runs on Android v4.4.2 which is upgradable to Lollipop and will feature an 8MP primary camera. Intex has given the phone a new look by making the back cover resistant to smudges and giving it a sand stone finish.
But the phone’s display is only 4.5 inches which is quite disappointing. It is still evident that the phone is targeted at the new smart phone users but in order to provide them with upgrades, Intex needs to take care to produce phones with lasting performance. Let’s see how this one fares.
The phone lacks sharp edges and cuts that give a premium feel to the phone. Instead, Intex has gone for a blunt design with overly rounded edges. The lower bezel has the capacitive button for navigation and the upper bezel interestingly has the secondary camera placed on the left side along with a soear placed on the top.
The back cover is said to have a sand-coated finish to protect it against smudges and scratches. The sand-coated effects increase the glossiness of the phone but still the phone maintains a good grip. The phone is comfortable to handle and it can easily fit in your pockets.
The phone looks good and it is available in three colors, white, coffee grey and black.
The phone has a 4.5 inch IPS LCD Capacitive touch screen with a resolution of about 960×540 pixels which provides a pixel density of 245 pixels per inch. The phone’s resolution though not crystal clear is average and the phone boasts about its qHD display. It weighs around 120grams which is quite heavy for a 4.5 inch phone.
The phone runs on Android v4.4.2 which is upgradable to Lollipop. Lollipop is the latest OS released by Android and it is already creating waves in the industry due to its simple yet sophisticated features. Intex has not made any significant modifications to the UI but has included some features of its own for convenience which are highly customizable. The phone allows multitasking even when the videos are playing. Such features can be considered necessary.
The Intex Aqua Speed comes with some pre-installed apps which include Online Software Update (FOTA),Matrabhasha which allows you to text in different Indian languages, Intex Zone, Intex Play, OPERA MINI, OLX, Intex Service, Newshunt, Askme and Lets Buy. Some of these apps can be deleted while apps like OLX are installed in system level and cannot be deleted.
The phone comes with an internal memory of 16GB out of which 12GB is available for User content but since Lollipop OS occupies a lot of space another 2GB has to be sacrificed for the sake of a enjoying the latest OS. The storage is expandable up to 32GB with the help of a microSD card.
The Intex Aqua speed comes with a 1.3 GHz MediaTek MT6582M Quad Core processor. The processor performs well and there are no complains of lagging or slowing down of the apps. High-end games might crash at times. The phone is free of bugs and other problems as it does not hand like many of the basic smartphones do.
The phone has a good 8MP primary camera which shoots average pictures under good lighting and the pictures are quite filled with noise under poor lighting conditions. The phone also has a 5MP secondary camera which is great for shooting selfies on the go. The camera can shoot HD pictures but HD video recording feature is not available. The camera features that Intex has included in this handset are Panorama Shot, Live photo mode, Gesture capture and the use of Volume rocker button to click pictures.
Battery Backup Life:
The phone operates on 1700mAh Li-ion battery. It might seem little but it sufficient to keep the phone running for 180 hours (Stand-by time). The battery could have been better as it provides only 4 hours of talk time. But the battery is replaceable which a huge advantage is for Intex Aqua Speed. Most of the phones these days come with a Unibody finish which removes the chances of replacing the battery. It is a huge disadvantage which is being ignored by the smartphone companies as the customers prefer replaceable batteries.
The Intex Aqua Speed offers Dual-SIM facility with both the SIMs having 3G connectivity.
Various sensors like Light sensor, compass, G-sensor and a replaceable back cover.
Other additional features include Auto call record which lets you record all the phone conversations this feature can be turned off to save memory, FM recording, LED flash and access of apps through smart gestures.
The customers also get 1year warranty.
The Intex Aqua speed is a simple phone with simple features but it works just fine. The phone which is targeted at the new smart phone users is gaining a lot of attention with the introduction of its latest models like Speed HD which has the same features along with HD display. The only downside of this phone is the battery which drains out pretty quickly. This phone seems to have everything that a new smart phone user might look for these days. It has great apps supported by a brilliant Lollipop OS and it has offers a lot of internal memory which is almost impossible to find in phones these days.
The Intex Aqua Speed is a great buy for new smart phone users who are yet to experience the Lollipop OS and want to experience the best of it at a low budget.
