Intex technologies a home grown company has released Intex Aqua Style Mini with its eye solely on the lower end of the mobile phone segment .The price at which it is offered is a mere Rs 4990 making it one of the cheapest smartphones in the market. The phone is available in two colours white and black and is also a touch screen to boot. The phone weighs a mere 106gms inclusive of the battery making it one of the lightest phones in the market. The company however strives to provide the users with some of the same features that are seen in high end smartphones offering the consumers the option of having a good smartphone or to keep it as an alternative option.
The competition is heating up as this is pitched directly against the Micromax Canvas Nitro another Indian variant making it an exciting battle.
The Screen Build
The phone offers a 4 inch WVGA Samsung AMOLED display which is quiet good as the display screen is wide enough and the screen offers the AMOLED which is the same in all Samsung phones. But the difference is in the screen resolution with the Intex Aqua Style Mini offering just 360*640 pixels with 233 PPI. So the clarity may not be all that great but offers good vision since the display screen is only 4 inches squeezing the pixels together.
The phone is nice and handy as it is compact and the frame is plastic which may not give classy feel but offers a good clean looks. The black version looks sleek compared to the white one. The phone features the standard GPRS/EDGE, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
The phone surprisingly is 3G compatible so consumers looking to experience 3G at an affordable price can certainly opt for Intex Aqua Style Mini. The phone also has covered the dual sim aspect making it an easy option or the consumer. The dual sim offered is compatible with GSM/CDMA for Sim 1 and Sim 2 is compatible with GSM only offering the customer to customize his network specifications.
Headphones are provided and the smartphone has been provided with USB port enabling data transfer and charging. The phone has Online software update (FOTA), Intex zone, OPERA Mini, Intex Games club, OLX app, News hunt, Saavn music app, Clik it, We chat, Launcher, FlipKart, Intex care, Zapak.
The phone has some additional features like auto call record, FM recording, Wall paper change and even a LED Flash. The smartphone has sensors like Proximity sensors and Accelometer. For football fans, there are preloaded games like Real Football 2014 and Empire Defence game.
The smartphone supports messaging, MMS and Email too. It provided email account support, has Group sms, Pre loaded instant messaging and even video calling. It has a Google play store too!
The phone has pretty amazing features considering the fact that is reasonably priced and is an absolute value for money when compared to other smart phones in the low end segment of the market.
The Hardware Style
The hardware is a simple dual core 1.0Ghz Mediatek MT6572 with 512 MB RAM. This is disappointing as the applications may not work with less speed .So multitasking may not be a wise choice here. One cannot play games or other graphic applications. The ROM is 1.23 GB of inbuilt memory. But what is truly pleasant is that the phone is expandable up to 32 GB which should provide ample storage of pictures.
The handset is accompanied by user manual, travel charger, data cable, Protection cover, screen guard, Earphones, warranty card and battery.
The battery backup is 1400 mAh which should give the user somewhere between 5-6 hours of talk time with 200 hours of standby time making the it the most dependable phone for basic usage of call and receive.
What is heartening is the presence of both the front and rear camera with the rear flaunting a 5MP. Not bad for a phone priced at rupees 4900. The consumer can have access to some great pictures. The front camera has 0.3 MP which makes one wonder about the quality of the picture here. The selfies that he can post on the popular social networking sites may not be up to the mark but still is an option. The rear camera also has a flash.
Good news is the phone is capable of panorama shot, HDR and even a continuous shot something which only the high end smart phones have managed to provide so far.
The Operating System
Another great advantage is the operating system which is the Android 4.4.2 Kitkat which is the same the choice of popular smartphones in the market.
The Intex Aqua Style Mini attempts to provide the high end features is praise worthy and succeeds to a certain extent in replicating the same. But one needs to see whether the hardware can withstand the application and usage of some of the features in the phone over a long duration.
The launch of Intex Style Mini has been an aggressive one and has the manufacturer has partnered with VIACOM-18 and has promoted Mary Kom whose icon is embossed on 5000 limited edition of the phones.
In the end, this phone is a good buy and economical for consumers looking for a cheap phone that is not made in China and is reasonably priced. College students, teenagers and the consumers who are under a restricted budget can opt for this phone and is a good proposition.
Taking into consideration the power packed features, the hardware components that are provided, the Intex aqua style mini packs a punch. It will be extremely difficult for other smartphone manufacturers to emulate looking at the specifications and features that has been provided.
What is to be tested in the long run is the performance for it offers so many features on a minimal hardware platform. If the reviews and sales are good then it will pose a tough competition to others operating in the same segment.
Considering all the factors Intex has put in its best foot in the market with this smartphone and is shrewdly attempting to capture the market which matters the most.
