LG G3 Beat Review

The Background

When we heard about LG’s new thought of volume and power button organization on its LG G2, we had a strange feeling. While using this mobile, we got frustrated with the button placement. The inconvenience is due to the organization of power button where generally our finger tips touch while using.

But we underestimated the customers. Even after its release, there is no considerable criticism over this phone. From then, LG has started making phones with same button placement. Also, its premium G Flex and the 2014 version G3 have same button organization. Therefore, this button arrangement design has become traditional in LG lineup.

Even though the button arrangement is weird, it was a great success and had become the traditional design of the LG.

LG G3 Beat Design & Look

The new G3 Beat amazed the customers with its high-end specifications, build quality, and excellent comfortable shape. It seems that LG did not think about the new design to set up on this model. The Beat actually mimicked its previous G3 and has the same design cues, including shape, narrow sides, and curved back. But, the new model is made of plastic and it doesn’t match with the impressive look of metallic G3.

There is no place for buttons on its front, but the device has some space around the display. The rear side is fixed with a camera, which is paired with an autofocus and LED flash along with some traditional buttons. The ports for Micro-USB and 3.5mm headset are organized at its bottom, whereas the LED flash is on the top. Therefore, there is nothing on the remaining two sides. Both Micro SD and Micro-SIM cards are stacked under the panel along with an easily accessible battery.

The new G3 beat is an impressive device when considering the design, but it has no impressive looks as the previous G3. Since the Beat is a compact model, it fits perfectly in one’s palm.

Even the mobile has better color reproduction on its 5-inch 720p display; there is no comparison with the 1080p panels of its rivals like the Huawei Honor 6 and the Micromax Canvas Knight. However, the display has beautiful outdoor visibility and exclusive viewing angles that make the phone quite impressive.

The UI feature of this phone is also taken from the previous G3 model, with no Dual Window Mode due to insufficient 1GB RAM. This UI feature is same in the previous model’s hardware specifications and offered lots of remote apps, pre loaded weather, sub menus, and settings.

Coming to LG G3 Beat dimensions and weight, this phone measures about 137.7 x 69.6 x 10.3 mm and weighs approximately 134 grams.

LG G3 Beat Hardware Specifications

Processor & RAM: The new G3 Beat is designed with a different 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor that is again coupled to Adreno 305 graphics. The model available in India supports LTE on the 2300 MHz band. Moreover, the mobile has an internal memory of 8GB along with RAM about 1GB.

Camera Review: A dedicated 8MP rear camera is very efficient than the Asus Zenfone 5 and the Moto G (2nd gen) cameras. But the camera has some technical glitches with the focusing abilities when compared with the Micromax Canvas Knight or Huawei Honor 6. This primary camera has decent indoor performance as well as outdoor. With a laser auto focus system, the auto-focusing is very fast on this mobile.

The camera lets the user to capture video in both 1080p and 720p modes. Unfortunately, the auto-focusing feature doesn’t work while capturing video. In addition, the performance of 1.3MP secondary camera is well and one can use this for video calls and Snap Chats.

Battery Backup Life: Among all, the best part of this phone is its battery’s ability. The installed Li-Ion 2540 mAh battery powers the phone for 20 hours while capturing videos in 1080p mode. If you use the phone moderately and get connected with 2G, it lasts for more than a day. Talking about figures, the battery lasts for about 16 hours in 2G and 15 hours in 3G while talking, and 700 hours in 2G and 750 hours in 3G in standby mode. By putting the battery in battery saver modes such as Quick Memo+, Qslide, and a quiet mode, the performance of the battery can be improved significantly.

LG G3 Beat OS, Apps & Software

Under the company’s general customization, the embedded Android 4.4.2 operating system is hardly recognizable. The interface of this mobile is very similar to the previous G3 with a stylish and flat look along with inconsistent icons.

As the screen has thin borders, one can do single handed operations on this phone. One can also set alarms and dismiss calls by just flipping the device over.

If you hand over the device to somebody, a Guest mode lets the other person to see only pre selected applications apart from your personal information.

The Company also included ThinkFree Viewer to access and sees some general file formats. Moreover, the phone comes with the Opera Mini along with the traditional browser. The QuickRemote app lets the user to make use of the IR LED to control almost all electronics and is also designed to work with major branded devices, except setting up of DTH set-top boxes. The phone is supplied with an application called RemoteCall which lets the user to make calls to the LG’s service center to rectify their problems while troubleshooting.

It is very easy to wake up the phone by just a single tap on the home screen. Moreover, one can put the phone in sleep mobe by just double tapping the home screen.

The Verdict of LG G3 Beat Review

The LG G3 Beat is a smart version with intelligent UI, sturdy design, and an impressive camera option. This phone is slightly overpriced in comparison to its competitors like Asus Zenfone 5 and Moto G 2nd Gen. This price matches with the Micromax Canvas Nitro and Huawei Honor 6 that are far better models than this phone. Go to this phone if you are a fan of LG, otherwise it is better to select other alternate handsets.
