Yet another installment in the Canvas family the Fire series seems to be making rounds with its amazing specifications and affordable price, both of the qualities which Micromax is known for. The Micromax Canvas Fire 4 which was released in March this year at the MCW conference that was held in Barcelona is available for purchase on Flipkart. This is a budget-friendly phone for those looking for average specifications at a cheap price.
Micromax Canvas Fire 4 Vs. Motorola Moto E:
Its main competitor is Motorola Moto E which is cheaper and comes with a few more advancements. It does not stand tall against Moto E but it does justice to the price and is a good phone with good specs.
Micromax Canvas Fire 4 Review
The Canvas four has a 4.5 inches IPS LCD display screen with only 480×854 pixels resolution. They have not made any changes to the resolution since the first Fire series handset which is quite disappointing as with an increase in price and other additions the resolution must have been looked into. The resolution is average. There are no dedicated home button, back button and apps button seen on the bezel, instead they are given as soft keys.
The design is sleek in a metal body finish with no removable battery. The phone holds the same design as the Fire 2. The unnecessary bezel space is cut off and there is only a thin line that borders both the edges. It quite looks like a bad imitation of the Apple iPhone 6 design. Nevertheless, this preferred by many new users just for this reason. They are of the same size. In terms of looks, it is average and maybe it is because Micromax has been implanting the same design for most of its handsets these days. There is not much difference at all.
It is available in one color, cosmic grey.
It offers Dual-SIM and dual-standby.
Corning Gorilla Glass protection:
The display is covered by a layer of Corning Gorilla glass for protection. We feel that this might be a more of a problem than an advantage as it will quite dim down the already average resolution. But a lot of buyers look for this feature in the phone, regardless of the tiny difference it causes to the resolution.
The Canvas Fire 4 operates on the Android version 5.0 (Lollipop). Lollipop version of Android is still the most advanced version of Android. Micromax has not made many modifications to the Android user interface on this device which comes as a surprise as recently Micromax has started modifying the Android interface.
It uses Mali-400 like most of its other devices. The Mali-400 GPU is considerably good as it allows you to play a wide variety of games and supports the phone to its best.
There is ample internal memory given, 8 GB. Most of the handsets in this price range offer lower than 4GB internal space. The 8GB space is one selling point for this handset. The storage is further expandable up to 32GB. The RAM is 1GB which is works amazingly when coupled with the 1.3GHz processor to provide an above average performance.
The reasonable RAM and internal space are two important things that attract the crowd to this handset.
The handset features an 8MP primary camera. The camera in Micromax has always been quite exquisite. Therefore, the 8MP primary camera will suffice for regular use to capture beautiful shots. It comes with an LED flash and autofocus options.
The secondary camera is 2MP. Both of which are upgraded from the previous model. The Fire 2 featured only a 5MP primary camera and 0.3 MP secondary camera. This upgrade was much needed with the world gearing towards selfie craze and addiction.
Now, Full HD videos can be recorded at 720 pixels resolution. The recording is smooth and does not cause any delay.
Battery Backup Life:
The handset utilizes a 2000 mAh Li-ion battery which provides a standby time of 300 hours and talk time of 7 hours. The battery is not the strongest point of this phone. They could have coupled the device with a 2500 mAh battery which would have worked perfectly for the features it holds. Micromax could have done it better, battery-wise.
It has a USB portal and supports Bluetooth for file sharing. GPS is provided along with Google maps for Navigation. It supports 3G connectivity. There is no mention of 4G network, though not many cities have enough 4G towers, it is still wise to start offering 4G connectivity than to have a lot of models with no 4G connectivity later when it gets famous.
Micromax Canvas Fire 4 Price in India:
Canvas Fire 4 Mobile is available online for just 7400 rupees at all e-commerce websites in India.
Best features of the phone:
The best feature of the Canvas Fire 4 is unmistakably the 8MP Primary and 2 MP secondary camera. They provide excellent outdoor photos. The Full HD video recording feature is another great feature to be found in a 7000 bucks phone. It also performs well.
The phone also comes with many preloaded apps while some of them are unnecessary, there are others like Cleanmaster, Paytm, Snapdeal, Dr.Safety, etc.
Downsides / Disadvantages:
The screen resolution could have been upgraded and the makers could have chosen a more powerful battery. And do not put it aside Moto E.
Sure, Micromax has produced better phones with better specs, but this series is aimed at the yet-to-experience-Smartphone folks who look for the best basic specs and this phone has it. It delivers a good performance and has a considerable number of features that set it apart from the other phones of the same price range. You cannot compare it with Motorola Moto E but it does well for the features it offers. Many just prefer Moto E because it is much cheaper and has more features than this model, so if Micromax is looking to defeat Moto E it will have to come up with a better model than this.
