Samsung Galaxy A3 Review

The Background:
Samsung launched the Alpha series in October 2014 and another member joined the metal-body team. With the introduction of metal body phones, Samsung tries to beat its competitor like Apple in the game. Though, the Alpha series is not match to the Iphone’s metal body Samsung’s attempt can be appreciated for its attempt in design and other features. The success of the Alpha series is mainly due to the Samsung fans out there who have been waiting for the metal body phone for years! Samsung manages to win them over with sleek design and performance oriented batteries that help you in the long run. It is available in two models, Samsung Galaxy A3 and Samsung Galaxy Duos. Samsung Galay A3 Duos offer a dual SIM facility while the former lacks it.

Even though it was introduced back in October 2014, supply issues have delayed its launch in the market. It is not a budget friendly phone as it is 24,000 INR but many websites offer discounts to as low as 19,000 INR.

Let us look at the advantages and disadvantages of the Samsung A3 and see what one can expect out of this beauty!

Samsung Galaxy A3 Design & look:

The Samsung Galaxy A3 comes in an impressive metal body clad around a plastic frame with a compact design that fits right in your pocket. The body is thinly designed to give a right feel in your hands. The metal body does not cause heaviness or anything of that sort. The back cover is a smooth surface with a matte finish to provide extra grip on the phone which just looks amazing under the light. It is available in six vibrant colors pearl white, midnight black, platinum silver, soft pink, light blue and champagne gold. The body is only 6.9 mm thick, and is one of the slimmest smart phones ever produced by Samsung!

The 4.5 inch display screen is lined with Super AMOLED capacitive qHd screen on a 540×960 pixels resolution gives the phone thumbs up for clarity and display. The qHd screen is more perfect for the 4.5 inch display screen than the normal HD screen.
Two slot trays are provided on the right hand side of the metal body to occupy one Nano SIM and one microSD card. The second slot tray can also be used to hold another SIM instead of a microSD card. Above the slot trays is a slim power button which is in metal. The left side of the body features the volume button, also in metal. The other features are nothing out of the ordinary and are similar to other Samsung phones in design. But on the left corner is a brilliant 5MP secondary camera that clicks high quality and good resolution selfies.

The one major disadvantage of Galaxy A3 is that the battery is not removable, while its predecessors were open to this facility.

In terms of looks, the Samsung Galaxy A3 scores more than 4 on a scale of 5 for ambient, light and rich design. The work put in by the designing team is evident in every aspect.

The Hardware Specifications:

The phone functions on a 1.2 GHz quad core processor that runs on the Qualcom Snapdragon 410 chipset and the graphics is powered by Adreno 360. The 1900 mAh along with the above specs is capable of providing a good 12 hours of 3G talk time. The non-removable battery is a huge disadvantage. The single SIM version has 1.5 GB RAM while the Duos version has only a 1 GB RAM. The overall performance of the phone is great. There is 16GB internal storage, which is expandable up to 64 GB in Duos version. This feature is not available in Single SIM version and even in Duos one has to choose between second SIM and expandable storage.

The 8MP primary camera with 3264 x 2448 pixels resolution for pictures also has other features like auto focus, LED flash, Geo-tagging, face detection, touch focus and panorama for producing good quality images. The secondary camera is of 5MP and 1080 pixels videos can be recorded at 30 frames per second.

The Samsung Galaxy A3 has all basic connectivity options like WiFi, WiFi hotspot, Bluetooth, GPS. For easier sharing and better internet connectivity, the single SIM version has LTE and NFC options.

A MicroUSB port is provided for charging. The phone also facilitates noise cancellation with the help of a special mic situated at the rear end

Samsung Galaxy A3 OS, Apps & Software:

The Samsung Galaxy A3 runs on improved Android 4.4.4 KitKat version along with TouchWiz user interface. The TouchWiz interface still maintains to amaze the users with simplified features. If you have never used a Samsung phone before, you must know that it is not the phone that one gets for an actual Android experience as Samsung modifies it and adds in a lot of other features. Nevertheless, the Galaxy experience is also equally good. With the Galaxy app store, an exclusive store on the galaxy phones, one has access to two of the best app stores, Google and Galaxy.

It offers features like photo editor, video editor, email viewer, document viewer, HTML5 browser and also has MMS, push mail and IM services.

Selfies can be taken with voice control and hand gestures.

The Verdict Samsung Galaxy A3 Review:

The Samsung Galaxy A3 with a 4.5 inch display screen in a metal clad body is the best looking phone in the market. It is also thin and handy. The advantages of this member of the Alpha family outweigh the disadvantages. The only major disadvantage of the phone is that the battery is irremovable. All the other features in line with the beautiful design are worth the price tag that comes along with it. The battery backup is good. Samsung has laid focus on improving the picture quality and video recording.
But one must make a wise choice when it comes to the version. The single SIM version is better as it comes with LTE and NFC facilities and 1.5GB RAM. One must be fully aware the Duos version offers only two slot trays and one has to choose between second SIM and MicroSD card for the second slot. Duos version also has only 1GB RAM without LTE and NFC facilities.

It is a little on the pricey side, but it is well worth the money.
