Samsung the handset manufacturer has launched Samsung Galaxy Note 4 the upgraded version of the Note 3. The Note 4 is a phablet and is targeted at the consumers who want the convenience of a tablet in a Smart phone. Samsung which has a pulse on the market sensed the mood and launched the Note in 2011. Although most of the other handset manufactures scoffed at this idea it was Samsung who was laughing all the way to the bank after the sales figures was posted in December 2011.
Now in 2014, Samsung has launched the latest iteration of the Note which is the Note 4. Taking over from the predecessor let’s find out whether the note is worth the hype.
The Looks of Samsung Galaxy Note 4
The looks of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 wins hands down as the plasticky feel has been replaced by a aluminium cast and the back of the Note 4 is covered with faux leather which ensures that the phablet is gripped tightly and does not slide out like the slippery eel. But if the user is hoping to use the Note 4 with one hand then make sure the hand is wide and huge as the Phablet has huge dimensions.
The display screen is spectacular and is Quad HD Super AMOLED display with an impressive screen resolution of 2560*1440.The viewing pleasure is enhanced with a 5.7 inches screen with a colour resolution of 2k. It is has light sensors and adjusts its screen brightness according to the natural or artificial lighting. The color depth is 515ppi. Though the screen is fused with warm fuzzy colours it is most suitable for games and homescreens but for email, browsing and reading e books , white is not bright and natural as it should be making it an irritant . The screen is not waterproof another feature that Samsung might need to work on.
The best feature of the AMOLED display is that it does not drain the battery life unlike other phablets in the market.
Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Hardware Specifications
The Hardware is strong and almost borders on the boastful with a 2.5Ghz Quad Core Exynos processor. The hardware is backed up with 4GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage memory expandable up to 128 GB which should enable the user to treat the Note 4 as a tablet for watching movies, reading e books, downloading videos and social networking. In fact it is the power house of entertainment.
The Battery offered is a 3220 mAh battery which can be 50 % charged in flat 30 minutes compared to the earlier version which used to take 55 minutes. One can even use the power saving mode to save battery life. The incredible stamina of the battery is owed to it strong hardware the Qualcomm Sanpdragon 805 processor and one can still find 11 hours of standby time after taking it through the HD video test. Though the battery life is tad less than the iPhone 6 or 6 Plus it still is a winner when compared to other phablets in the market.
The Phablet has both a front and rear cameras that is 2 MP and 16MP respectively. They should offer high clarity visual pictures; one common grouse is that the colors are not natural like the LG or iPhone.
Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Software and OS
The operating system is the Android 4.4 KitKat and should be able to upgrade to Android 5.0 Lollipop when the upgrade is made available.
The Ultimate accessory
We can go on talking about the features and specifications but we cannot ignore of what makes the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 deserve such attention. It is the S Pen. The pen is twice as sensitive and hence the writing or the scribbling is better on the screen. To give the Stylus users something to cheer about, it has made available the Fountain Pen and Calligraphy as options.
The Stylus can be used for Quick Notes, Smart select for saving text and images, the Image clip and Screen Write all should make it holding the Stylus worthwhile in your hand.
If you are concerned that you might not get used to holding the stylus in your hand ,it will just take a couple of days to feel it as an integral part of the Phablet and you will find it difficult to let go.
Using the S Pen in one hand and the Phone on the other will feel completely natural. The features of the Samsung Galasy Note 4 like the Multi window which can be accessed to use multi applications, pop one app full screen when the other remains as a bubble are all impressive.
Verdict of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Review
The Samsung Note 4 has power packed features and caters to a broad spectrum of users. It has also justified the notion that bigger is better. It holds its might in front of the iPhone 6 or LG G3. The design is good and the features are awesome. But so does the other phablets .But one buy the Samsung Phablet for its performance and not to show off its designer details. The price is also slightly economical compared to the iPhone 6 as the phablet with the same expandable storage memory of 128 could be cheaper by $100.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 should be opted by users who are heavy into scribbling, making random notes and using lot of its editing features. The Note 4 is also better made and one will fall absolutely in love with it at first sight.
The Samsung Note 4 will be definitely a good buy albeit a pricey one but one that ahs real innovation and which does not add up to the bloatware.
It will be interesting to see whether other handset manufactures will bring out their own versions with a stylus to make a dent in this market too. Samsung Note 4 is truly the king of the Stylus and discharges its duties efficiently too.
The Samsung 4 is the most powerful and most advanced that has come out of Samsung and is truly an outstanding phone.
